"Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.” Matthew 7:24
A Rock Solid Life
The aim of Jesus’ sermon on the mount is clear in Matthew 7:24-- We need to help
He wants us to actually DO this stuff! He explains that such each other
people will be found wise and possess “storm-proof” lives. Often understand how to
times we take such an admonition seriously and launch off with actually LIVE
best intentions but find ourselves coming up short! One of the Jesus' teachings!
common problems with these efforts is that we are trying to live out
Christ’s teachings ALONE. And, quite frankly, it is “not good for us
to be alone”! Consider this: the Sermon on the Mount was delivered
to a group of people, the Bible is generally written to groups of
people and the ultimately the call is to live out the Scriptures...
together! Even a quick glance at this sermon (Mt. 5-7) will tell us
that Jesus is very concerned for how we do life and relationships.
Therefore, we invite you to form a team of people who will
help you think and pray your way into building your life on the Rock.
Tips for building a Rock Solid Team
We’re recommending people find teams of at least 3 to meet weekly and dig into the sermon discussion points. These points will be action focused and designed to help you live out Christ’s teachings.
Think about connecting with people you know from your small group, church ministry, or previous activities.
Although face to face meeting is ideal, we understand schedules and encourage you to at least connect however you can (email, text, phone).
Frequently Asked Questions
Triads are threesomes devoted to helping each other think through and apply the Sermon of the Mount messages to their personal lives.
No…we encourage folks to find a group they can think these sermons through with. For some, three people would be the maximum…for others a small group may be just fine. The important feature is to have some people you can process with. We don’t recommend just one other person as it fails to provide a larger and richer dynamic to pondering the sermons.
Q- “What should happen when we meet?”
Jesus tells us that anyone who, "hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock." (Mt 7:24) Therefore, we encourage you to talk about what you've heard (you will get some sermon discussion questions each week)...but then PLAN for how you will put that into practice in your personal life. The goal here is to have some friend help you DO the Word of God.
Q- “How often should we meet?”
It makes sense to meet on a weekly basis. Ultimately that could be face to face, but occasionally you could email or call. Again the aim of triads is to build a dynamic support system.
Q- “How do I put together a team?”
Talk to people you already know and have a relationship with at Bridgewood. If you are new here, talk with the staff about finding others who need a team.
Q- “So is this some sort of accountability group?”
No, although community provides a measure of accountability; the onus is on you to decide how you will live out Jesus’ commands. The group exists to help you think towards that end.
